A journey through time – Mazarrón mines

The origin of Mazarrón’s mining tradition dates back to Roman times, which, due to its strategic location by the sea, made it the ideal place for its commercialization.

Zinc, silver and lead were extracted from these mines until the 60s.

Currently, there is totally free access and it is a highly visited place of tourist interest, serving as a scene in some video clips and movies.

Once there, you can see the remains of buildings, houses, chimneys, entrances to caves and the iron oxide lake, a lagoon with earthy and reddish colors.
